HISTORY OF OGDEN UNION STATION
Ogden's first depot was a wood structure built in 1869 by the Union Pacific Railroad. This scene shows the two story depot / hotel as well as the first station on the left side of the picture.
In 1889, the wooded depot was replaced by an elaborqate Victorain building. This view show the front of the station facing towords downtown Ogden. Transport between downtown and the station was by mule drawn trolley.

In 1923 a fire destroyed the building. Some effort was made to restore the burned out building but when a worker was killed by falling debris, it was decided to tear down the old and construct a completely new one.
Construction on the current Union Station began in late 1923 was completed and dedicated in 1924.
During the height of World War II, Union Station saw thousands of service men pass through. This view shows a group of them in front of the Station.
The Union Station has ceased to serve as a rail depot. It is now the site of a gift shop, 4 museums, meeting rooms, a theater, visitors center, a restaurant and a model train shop. |
